As part of its workplace safety programs, Servicio Filipino, Inc. hosted an earthquake and fire safety drill last 17th June 2017 for its West Avenue head office employees.
Corporate Safety Officer Romeo Gamboa of SFI’s Operations unit initiated the preparations for the program, seeking the help of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) to conduct the drill.
Mr. Gamboa coordinated with Fire Officer 2 Zenneth Magistrado and Fire Officer 2 Lorenzo Castillo of the Frisco Fire Sub-station, who served as the guest instructors from the BFP. Both had been in the service for 4 years, and had taken part in larger fire suppression operations, says FO2 Castillo.
Both Fire Officers gave backgrounders on and basic protocols for earthquake and fire occurrences. The SFI employees later rehearsed earthquake and fire safety procedures, including actual proper use of fire extinguishers.
FO2 Magistrado cited obstructed fire exits and lack of proper housekeeping as the most common incorrect fire safety practices among private establishments.
Servicio Filipino’s premises are part of an area monitored by the Frisco Fire Sub-station, which can be reached through (02) 4131807.
